Lily was starving. Her stomach had been growling since late afternoon, but she’d been too busy, too stressed, to even think about food. Now, as she got out of the cab in front of the apartment building, exhaustion and hunger hit her all at once. She pulled her coat tighter around her shoulders against the chilly night air and grabbed her phone. Her fingers scrolled through the food delivery app while she walked. She barely looked where she was going, eyes fixed on the glowing screen. She typed in search words, noodles, maybe fried rice, or some soup. She didn’t even care anymore. She just wanted something warm, something easy. After a moment of indecision, she tapped an order and added extra dumplings, then confirmed it with a sigh.
