Chapter Thirteen

Luke came back with Katie in the evening and the atmosphere became tenser than a super stretched cord. At first, they ignored Leslie and he took her in, helped her sit on the couch while he made her warm milk and sat down to watch her drink while checking her temperature. That was something Luke never did for her even when she was ill. Leslie felt a tinge of hurt but she didn’t feel bad at all. She just shrugged it off. Later on, Luke approached her once more with the same ridiculous order. “You need to apologize to Katie now.” “And I remember I said I wouldn’t apologize even if the world was ending!” “Don’t make this hard on yourself, Leslie,” he said. “She will press charges but as long as you apologize, she will drop all of that.” “Tell me something, Luke,” she asked, “is it only the apology that she’s after or just the satisfaction of me grovelling before her and taking blame for something I didn’t do?” “You’re being unreasonable!” “You’re the one being unreasonable here!”
