Chapter 8
Among the new clients we had acquired, Ethan's name was on the list. Somehow, he had become one of my clients.
I had to admit, it was a clever move. It left me with no excuse to turn down a meeting.
That night, he parked his car across the street I always took home from work. This time, I had no intention of avoiding him.
"Kendall, does your leg still hurt?" Ethan asked.
Of all the things he could have said, I didn't expect that to be the first.
"Sometimes. But it's all behind me now," I replied lightly. In truth, I just didn't want to go back to those painful memories.
Almost immediately, tears welled up in Ethan's eyes. His voice was thick with emotion as he responded, "You're lying. I looked it up. After an amputation, people go through hell. There's phantom pain, spasms, and the risk of infections. Isn't that right?"
