Camila’s pov
I had to decide. I faced a choice that could either demolish all my hard-earned accomplishments or safeguard the most significant aspects of my life. Alejandro's life was vanishing in a place I couldn't access, somewhere chilly and dark. The cartel was seeking evidence. The cartel was seeking proof of my unwavering loyalty. They were searching for proof that I would not betray them. Evidence that I wasn't keeping him hidden. I wouldn't give them that satisfaction, though. Not right now.
It was a dangerous plan. Risky. Even insane. Pretend he's dead. Give them the impression that he has left. Dead. so they wouldn't pursue him. I mentally rehearsed the steps, the lies, the timing, and the desperation I had to display.
If the cartel discovered my deceit, if this strategy proved ineffective, I would end my life.
