Only now did Damian realize just how badly he had miscalculated. If he hadn't been so focused on forcing the twins into the house, none of what followed would have happened. Penelope loved him so deeply. If she could swallow her pride and endure his affair, then in time, she might have accepted the children for his sake. But his impatience had thrown everything into chaos. The weight in his chest sank lower and lower until it felt like he was drowning in total darkness. With trembling hands, he tried calling Penelope again, but her phone was still off. Then, it hit him. She had been missing for an entire week, and in all that time, the people who had taken her hadn't made a single call. This wasn't a simple kidnapping. Could it be an act of revenge from an enemy? Damian collapsed to the floor. If her kidnapper had asked for ransom, at least there would be room to negotiate. But if it was revenge… He didn't even want to imagine what kind of inhuman torment Penelope might be endurin
