KIMBERLY’S POV
I stood on the sidewalk and observed as Xavier's car disappeared down the street.
I experienced this strange feeling of weight in my chest.
It wasn't like he was never coming back. He'd be home before my birthday—he assured me. But even that he was going to be gone for a couple of days bothered me.
I exhaled heavily, my arms clutched across my chest as wind rushed around me in the morning.
"Come back soon," I mumbled to myself.
I waited for a few moments, my gaze sweeping across the now-empty road, before I walked toward my car.
Work.
I needed to surround myself with work. That would distract me from how much I already missed him.
The moment I went into the office, I dove headfirst into work that had piled up in the past two days. Sketching, filling out closing orders on fabric, fitting, mail to reply; I dove into all of them with energy that my staff were surprised at my eagerness to work.
