"You're seriously out of your mind." Claire finally snatched her phone back and slumped onto the couch, not even bothering to hide her irritation with Nelson. In hindsight, it was her bad decision. When she chose Silverhollow Villa, she only thought about how peaceful it was. That it was way out from downtown didn't cross her mind—now she couldn't even get a ride out. Nelson didn't continue arguing. He just stared at her for a moment, then turned and took out his phone. At the top of his contacts list, the name still saved as 'Claire' had been there for years. He pressed call, his lips tightly pressed together— As expected, that same robotic voice came through the speaker loud and clear: "The number you've dialed is no longer in service…" He made sure it was on speaker, just so Claire could hear it too. He said nothing, but the message behind the action was obvious. If she hadn't changed her number, it wouldn't be disconnected. And if she'd blocked him, that'd be a different message. C
