"Of course I was celebrating…"
Claire swallowed the rest of the sentence as soon as she caught sight of Nelson's stormy expression.
Okay, now she was confused.
He never liked this marriage in the first place. It was all because of his grandpa's dying wish. Now they were finally getting divorced—shouldn't he be happy about it?
So why did he look like he'd just swallowed a fly?
But she didn't have time to unravel the mystery. The broken bowl from earlier had left a gash on Nelson's finger, and the water from the faucet was now tinged a pale red.
She frowned. "Let me do the dishes. You go clean that cut."
"No need."
Nelson tossed the broken bowl and shards straight into the trash and, despite the bleeding, went on rinsing the other dishes one-handed.
There were only two bowls and a couple of small plates—nothing that really called for a shift swap anyway.
Problem was, once he turned off the tap, blood started seeping out again. It looked bad.
But he couldn't care less. He grabbed a napkin
