When I arrived, Serena was already there, sitting with her arms crossed, legs elegantly crossed as well. She looked up as I entered, her eyes narrowing just slightly before she smirked.
"Ah, Alicia. Took you long enough."
I ignore her and sat across from Mr. Laquan, my hands resting casually on the table, but inside, my heart was pounding. Serena sat beside me, just as poised, just as confident. The room was heavy with anticipation as Mr. Laquan flipped through our designs. He barely said a word, his face unreadable, which only made the silence stretch unbearably long.
Then, finally, he exhaled and placed the last sheet down.
"Ladies," he started. "First, let me commend you both. You presented excellent designs, each with unique strengths. It was not an easy decision."
Serena’s smirk widened, and I could practically feel the confidence radiating off her.
I remained silent, waiting.
"But," he continued, "I have made my decision."
