Leaning against Kaelis, Theron managed a faint shake of his head. "It's nothing serious—just a small scratch. Don't worry about me." He even forced a crooked smile, trying to ease her worry. Kaelis hastily wiped the tears streaming down her face, her hands trembling as she checked Theron all over. Only when she saw it was nothing more than a few scrapes and bruises did she finally let out a shaky breath. "See? Now you believe me? I told you it was nothing serious. I'd never lie to you." Kaelis choked back a sob and nodded, but she still kept pushing him toward the hospital. "It might not look bad, but we can't take any chances. Too many people end up worse off because they thought it was nothing." Theron gave a faint smile and didn't argue, letting her fuss over him as she pleased. Meanwhile, the man bleeding out on the ground never earned so much as a glance from Kaelis. Garrick struggled to breathe, every inhale stabbing at him until he thought he might pass out. The agony f
