Lucien "Stay behind me," I said, stepping in front of Kara. I took a fleeting glance at the back; there had to be a way out through there. I didn't know how many men I was going to face. I let out a curse under my breath, wishing that I had at least taken some backup along with me. A shadow loomed in front of us, getting clearer with every second. "Well, look what we have here," a voice spoke. Looking at the man in front of us, I recognized him—the same guy who let me into the pack house. But there was no time to think about it. I got into a fighting stance immediately, drawing out my gun, fingers tightening on the trigger. However, the man wasn't looking at me. "Kara?" he asked, his voice confused. I dared to glance back, and Kara was looking at him with the same shocked expression. I could feel her nervousness like it was my own. "Stand back." My gaze returned to the man. I glared at him, making it certain that he wasn't going anywhere near her without getting past me first. He lifte
