Chapter 15

Felix walked ahead without slowing, glancing down at me. "Why do you need it? Don't you remember what Grandpa and Grandma said? They want a great-grandchild by next year." He set me down on the vanity counter, then walked over to start running the bath. Watching his broad back, I hesitated before murmuring, "But I'm not ready to have a baby. Childbirth is painful, and raising kids is exhausting… I just don't think I'm prepared for any of that yet." Felix turned and came back to me, crouching slightly so that we were eye level. "Don't be afraid. I'll be with you the whole time. Once the baby's born, I'll take care of both of you." In other words, the baby was happening. That much was clear. I fell silent, letting him lift me into the bath. He carefully pinned my hair up. Noticing the hesitation in my eyes, he laughed softly. "Let's just take it easy. If the baby wants to come, we'll let it happen naturally. How about that?" Looking at his gentle expression, I could only nod.
