Chapter 25: Come Home with Me

Damien and Violet were left alone at last as Viola went to make coffee for Damien. 'Violet, I am sorry. I forgot that you had told me once, during our discussion that you had a twin who was living with your mother', he said. 'I had been afraid. It was as though history was repeating itself. You know my history of course and that was something I could not tolerate'. 'Your distrust caused me alot of pain', she said. 'How could you allow your past to affect your present so much?' 'A past that was very painful. It was a double betrayal of which I have already told you', he said. ' I find that what I feel for you supercedes what I had felt for Carole. And I who thought I'd never make myself vulnerable again that way'. 'If the past still hurts you the way you are making out, then you cannot possibly love me', she said thoughtfully. 'It means that you are still in love with Carole or do not want to let go, your memories of her'. She paused to take a deep breath. 'The heart abhors a vacuum. If
