Chapter 53: Back Again to Help a Friend

Violet got to Barnes and let herself into her father's apartment, taking the key where they had always kept it. She was grateful her father had thought to continue keeping the key there because though his office was close to the house, she was in no mood to go there. She just couldn't face the other for e men and their jokes. They meant no harm but she was just not in the mood for jokes. She wanted to be alone to her thoughts. As soon as she got in, she flung her bag to a corner and collapsed on the bed. The events of the past few days came crowding in her mind and overwhelmed her and she found herself crying unconsolably. She had tried to present a brave front in front of Sandra and Raymond but right now, she felt so alone. She felt that the world was against her. She almost decided to go see her father. That could probably bring a little repose to her shattered spirit but when she recalled all the meetings of those officers that mean well, she was afraid she would betray herself in f
