Chapter 37
I flipped through my textbook, but I couldn't focus. Dusk had fallen, and Aaron still wasn’t home. What’s keeping him? Is Dad giving him a hard time again?
I sighed, frustrated. Why can’t you come home early for your little wife?
My phone buzzed—Joe.
I picked up.
“Yes?”“Ivy, where have you been?” His voice sounded sharp.“I’ve been busy,” I said flatly.“Busy with what?”“I’m not in the mood, Joe. Let’s talk tomorrow.” I ended the call and turned off my phone as it rang again. Enough already.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps. My heart skipped.“Is that Aaron?” I whispered, rushing to the door.
There he was.
His sleeves were rolled up, tie undone, shirt half open. His hair was messy, and he looked exhausted—but so handsome. We locked eyes. Everything around us blurred.
“Aaron…” I whispered, stepping toward him.
But my mom called from downstairs. I froze.
He gave me a look that said everything—longing, tiredness, restraint. I smiled softly, my heart aching. He turned away and walked to his room.
