Chapter 19

Rita lived in the luxurious Biltmore Estate perched high on the mountains. This was where she had grown up with her grandmother and mother. As she gazed out of her window, she couldn't help but be captivated by the breathtaking scenery and the fresh air. Suddenly, there was a knock at her door, and when she opened it, it was Abbott. "I'm heading downtown for a drink. Would you care to join me?" he asked with a hopeful smile. Rita shook her head. "No." Abbott was a party animal. Rita couldn't blend in with his people. They were just too crazy. In fact, Abbott couldn't enjoy himself with Rita around, but he still came to ask. After getting Rita's answer, he left her alone with peace of mind. Now, she was the only one left on the second floor. ...... The night was quiet and peaceful until she was abruptly woken up by her phone's vibration. She groggily answered, "Who is it?" "It's me," Nelson's deep voice spoke on the other end of the line, sending shivers down Rita's spine. "Open the door." Confused and a little bit annoyed, Rita asked, "Where is the door?" "Your door," Nelson responded. Rita's temples were twitching. "What the hell are you doing at my door, at this hour??" Listening to the faint anger in her tone, Nelson seemed not to notice that. He only said, "Either you come out or I come in." Rita couldn't stand it anymore, "Are you fucking lunatic?" Nelson Wallis was a complete psycho. There was nothing he couldn't do. She really believed that if she didn't open the door, he might find someone to break the door. knowing that he wouldn't take no for an answer, Rita ended the call. So, she reluctantly put on her coat and made her way downstairs to meet him. As she opened the door, she was met with the sight of Nelson leaning against his car, smoking. The dim street lamp cast an ethereal glow around him, and Rita couldn't help but feel drawn to him. For some reason, Rita's chest felt tight as she stood in front of Nelson. She tried to push down this strange emotion and stepped forward. "Why are you here?" Nelson flicked his cigarette and handed her his phone. Rita did not take it. "What on earth are you going to do?" "Take a look." Nelson only had three words. Rita hesitated but eventually took the phone from him. "You're mad. You come at this hour just to show me your phone?" The next second, her face changed. It was none other than Abbott on the screen. It was a photo of Abbott sitting in a nightclub with some other men, surrounded by half-naked women. Nelson's voice dripped with sarcasm. "So this is who you've been with for the past three years?" Rita gritted her teeth and cursed Abbott in her heart, but her face was still calm. She tried to keep calm. "He's not the best, but he's better than you." Compared to what he had done three years ago, Abbott had merely been a playboy. What's wrong with that? Nelson's face darkened. "Don't you dare to compare yourself to Abbott," Rita spat out with a sneer. "He may not be perfect, but at least he doesn't drug women and take their blood without their permission. You're the real monster here, Mr. Wallis." Sometimes, she really wanted to dig out this man's heart and see if it was a stone! Nelson's expression shifted several times. He gazed at Rita intently, but ultimately remained silent. Rather than discussing Abbott any further, he took out a document and presented it to her. Rita looked at the document and did not take it. "What's your game now, Nelson? Another evidence about Abbott? Listen, this is not going to work! I know who he is. If you think this is some sort of trump card, take it and save yourself the trouble." Nelson ignored her restlessness and stuffed the document directly into her hand. "This is you and Abbott's divorce papers. Sign it."
