Chapter 13: A Lamb Amongst the Wolves

The moment Irene turned around, Edmond pounced on me. He pressed me against the car seat and kissed me. This position made his kiss deeper than ever before. I felt like I could barely breathe. I wanted to resist because my tongue had been numbed by Edmond's kiss, almost to the point of unconsciousness, but I was afraid that Irene would hear the commotion in the car and lean over to check. She was already less than five feet away from the car. There was no other scenery outside the car window, only the pink color of Irene. I was almost afraid to breathe for fear of attracting Irene's attention. Edmond, however, acted as if no one was outside the car. He unbuttoned the top two buttons of my shirt, exposing a large part of my collarbone. Edmond kissed my collarbone, occasionally making kissing sounds when his lips touched my skin. I thought the sound was so loud that it could penetrate the car window and was clearly in Irene's ears. Bang, bang, bang. My heart was pounding like a thunderstorm. I tried to calm myself down, but Edmond was so bad that he would always bite my earlobe when my breathing was calmer. Irene moved around the car, and I had to bite Edmond's arm to keep from making a sound. The time slowly passed... I couldn't stand this uncomfortable feeling. I shouted inwardly for Irene to leave quickly... Finally, as if the Moon Goddess had heard my call, Irene moved away from the car. I was relieved. I let go of Edmond's arm and groaned. "Girl, you really bite hard." Edmond let go of me. He pushed himself up and showed me the teeth marks on his arm. It was indeed a little deep. If Irene had left a little later, I might have bitten Edmond's arm worse. "It's all your fault!" I glared at Edmond. "I'm just rewarding you after you've missed me so much." Edmond chuckled. "Glib-tongued!" I cursed Edmond inwardly. "Who missed you?" I certainly wouldn't admit it. I gave the teeth mark on Edmond's arm another pinch, and it turned even redder. "Hiss." Edmond was in pain. "Are you trying to kill your husband?" Seeing Edmond's expression, I suddenly got in a better mood and let out a laugh. *** The sound of clinking wine glasses was endless. As Hank's fiancée, I was the only woman at the dinner banquet for high society. "Is this Mrs. Karl? She's indeed beautiful. The fragrance on her body really makes me want to ravish her." "That's right. Look at her skin. It's so smooth and makes me almost lose control." "And look at Mrs. Karl's slender neck. I want to bite it just by looking at it. Hank is really lucky." I raised my wine glass beside Hank and clinked it against the guests one by one. Everyone was saying vulgar words. As expected. In fact, I had expected them to be like this from the moment I knew I was going to attend the party, and I would be destined to dodge all kinds of molestation tonight. Everyone stared straight at me as if a ghostly light was emanating from their eyes. They seemed as if they would transform into wolf form and pounce on me in the next moment. No, this look was not horny. This look was much scarier than that… This look was predatory. "Come on, Mrs. Karl, let's have a drink." A tall guest put his arm around my shoulders, and his mouth kept moving closer to me. Finally, it stopped at my neck. I was furious. I just couldn't stand being so close to him. I did not know if it was an illusion. I always felt that the man's teeth had just become much longer and as sharp as a wolf's. What made me frightened was that he had the same smell and scent of blood as Hank and my father. Fortunately, Hank returned. The man immediately let go of me and walked quickly to the side. The party had been going on for more than two hours, and none of the guests had left. They were all in their seats and lying back in their chairs, obviously drunk. But their eyes seemed zeroed on me. I now felt like a lamb that had mistakenly entered the devil's lair, bewildered and at a loss. My eyes swept over everyone. They were all licking their lips insatiably, supposedly because they had just eaten a full meal. Suddenly, one man looked up. My gaze just happened to rest on him, and we looked at each other across the table. My eyes were puzzled, but his eyes were greedy. His eyes were glowing green. He licked his lips and stretched his nose toward me and sniffed. For some reason, I suddenly remembered how the guests looked at me when making a toast. The image suddenly overlapped with the expression of this man in front of me. Ah! That's right! The guests were looking at me with such an expression, the expression of a beast looking at its prey. I was startled by my thought, and the man across the table had suddenly jumped on it. I was so scared that I used all my strength to escape back to Nightsong and quickly locked the door. "Why are you running?" Someone else's voice came from inside. I was startled by the sound, and my body slammed against the door. I settled down and saw the person inside. It was Irene. She was clutching a gem that Hank had asked Edmond to bring me. "Tell me. Why did you steal my Moon Goddess Gem?" Irene came up to me and grabbed my wrist with great force. I thought, Stealing her gem? What is Irene up to now? Is it a frame-up? I immediately regained my senses from the panic and shook off Irene's hand. "Irene, this is from Hank." I didn't want to pay any attention to her crazy behavior. "How is that possible? It's mine! I know all the patterns on it. You just don't want to admit it!" Irene continued, "I think you've never been rich before, so you stole it from me because you thought it was precious. Didn't you marry my father for money?" "How can you prove that it is yours? Just by the patterns? Then I am even feel more familiar with its patterns!" I retorted. "You just don't want to take responsibility!" Irene shouted recklessly and opened the door. She grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me out. "Come on, let's go find my father and Edmond. I'll show them what kind of woman you are!" "No need." The voice came from overhead. I looked up and found that Edmond was here. "Don't you want to prove that Liana stole your Moon Goddess Gem? I have a way," Edmond looked at Irene and said coldly. Irene was so happy that she let go of me and hugged Edmond's arm. I was upset because Edmond was still defending Irene like that. Edmond did not say anything else. He took the gem from Irene's hand and put it in his palm. A blue flame appeared in his palm and wrapped the gem. The blue flame kept going up, and the gem followed the flame and left Edmond's hand. Finally, it was suspended in the air. "This is the master spell. The enchanted thing will automatically find its owner. Just follow this gem, and you will find its true owner." Edmond led the gem to the middle of Irene and me after he finished. Edmond snapped his fingers. Then the gem began to vibrate. The gem began to deflect and finally flew to my side. Although I had already guessed this result, the corners of my mouth involuntarily rose at the thought of Edmond helping me. "No way! It must be Liana who cheated! She set me up!" Irene shouted and pointed at my face. "If she cheats or not, we'll see." Edmond pulled a hair from Irene's head and put it in his palm as he had just done. That hair was also surrounded by a blue flame and eventually found Irene. "Do you have anything else to say?" I asked Irene and looked at her with some amusement. Irene was so ashamed. Her face was already red. She didn't dare to look at Edmond and me. Then she ran away in a panic with her head down. Only Edmond and I were left in the room. I looked at Edmond, and a warm current rushed through my heart. I thought, Edmond helped me. He was on my side. He didn't like Irene! This thought made me feel better all of a sudden after a few days of low mood. I took the initiative to get closer to Edmond. I felt his breath and the strong smell of hormones on his body. 'Edmond is really handsome. He is also very thoughtful of you and takes care of you with great care. Also, from what you said, he seems to be very strong, and he should be a devoted person…' I suddenly remembered the positive things Nico said about Edmond. Edmond seemed to be a good mate...I couldn't hold back any more as I fell into his arms and kissed Edmond on the lips.
