*Hiding her true nature was her plan. Falling for her "mate" wasn't.*
The next morning, I was still buried in my nest of blankets when sharp knocking jolted me from sleep. Dragging myself to the door, I pulled it open to find Liam standing there in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit, not a hair out of place. The sight of him—powerful, polished, and radiating alpha energy—startled me fully awake.
His eyes skimmed over my tangled hair and sleepy expression before deliberately looking away. Even with my scent disguised, I could feel the pull between us, that invisible thread tugging at something primal within me.
"Weren't you planning to go to work today?" he asked coolly. "What's the holdup?"
"Give me five minutes," I mumbled, running fingers through my knotted hair before slamming the door shut—nearly catching his nose in the process. Through the door, I heard his exasperated sigh followed by retreating footsteps.
