Chapter 18. Devon’s POV. The sound of my own footsteps reverberated through the hall as I chased after Sara. Her sobs, sharp and piercing, filled the air, their echo an urgent call for me to explain the inexplicable. “Sara! Sara! Sara!” I called out but I got no response. She reached her room, desperation clouding her features as she reached for the door handle. But I was quicker. My legs slid between the door and its frame, my arm snaking out to grip the handle, holding it fast. "Sara, please," I begged, my breath catching in my throat, "I can explain."
