Chapter Fifteen

Surprisingly, the Sunday crowd at Lucky's was light. There were hardly any teens present and I had a pretty easy day.

The only downside was that I didn't make as much money, but it was fine. I still made more than I would have made at the diner.

Since it was my last day this week, I smiled as I wiped the last table in my section and whistled on my way to clock out.

I was in a good mood.

When I walked outside, Sin was standing there in normal clothes instead of his usual cop wear. He was leaning against a vintage Mustang typing furiously on his phone.

When he looked up and saw me he simply nodded his head towards the passenger door before turning on his heels and heading towards the driver's side.

I sighed. This was going to be awkward.

I slid into the car quickly, not trying to annoy him and buckled myself in.

He didn't even seem to notice me as he continued to smash his fingers along his keyboard. He didn't even turn the car on.

"I don't text and drive." He explained, not taking his eyes off of the screen. "I just need to see why she won't-"

He paused, lifted his gaze and raising his phone before tapping a button. I was curious enough to gaze over my shoulder and see that he was FaceTiming Rory.

When she didn't answer, he groaned tossing his phone into the back seat before quickly starting the engine.

"Sorry about that." He grumbled, backing out of the parking lot and heading towards my house.

"No problem." I mumbled.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of our conversation.

"I think-" he broke off , interrupting himself by running his hands through his hair. Then he sighed and continued to drive in silence.

Don't push it. Don't push it.

"What?" I asked only because I hated when people did that. Not because I was nosy.

He chuckled shaking his head. "I think I'm being... Clingy."

To my credit, I didn't laugh. I pursed my lips together to keep from doing so and waited for him to finish.

When we stopped at a red light he turned to me,"So I have this girlfriend, Rory."

I nodded.

"Well, we're sorta doing the whole long distance thing, so we call each other at least every two days and we normally face time. But today she hasn't been answering my calls."

I rolled my eyes. Rory obviously wasn't the best at relationships. If I were hiding a secret from my boyfriend I would definitely have a logical explanation for why I wasn't acting normal. Was she just winging it?

"So you think she wants space?" I asked. I was just stalling so I could decide if I wanted to play mediator or not.

I normally didn't get into other people's relationships, but they were both so clueless that I had a need to help them. Plus, he clearly loved her.

"I don't know. She keeps making excuses but she's terrible at lying. Do you think I should give her some space?"

"Has she told you she needed space?" I asked.

He sent me a blank look. "Girls don't just say they need space. Do they?"

I shrugged. "Some do, Rory seems like the type to say what she means."

He raised a brow. "You know her?"

Let me explain something; Normally, I was a good liar. As long as I had all the details I could lie about pretty much anything. I just had to know ahead of time that I would need to lie.

Sin's question caught me by surprise and I stumbled.

"Ah...no?" I said more like a question.

He didn't look convinced. "How do you know my girlfriend?" He asked.

"I don't know her. How would I? I've been right here the whole night. I think you would have noticed if I had disappeared and met your girlfriend while you were driving me home Sin."

It was actually embarrassing.

He shook his head. "You're obviously lying. Are all girls sucky liars?" He asked.

I leaned back in the seat as the light turned green. "I don't know her. But if I were you I'd just reassure her that you love her and that she can talk to you about anything. I'm just saying, not that I know her. I don't...know her."

I don't... know when to shut the hell up.

He pursed his lips, thinking about it.

When he pulled up to Zeta Phi, I hopped out of the car before he could further question me. I quickly waved goodbye as I unlocked the door to the house.

I was asleep in minutes.
***********************

On Monday I decide to officially get my life together.

I mad a to do list. It was a hobby of mine, making to do lists.

I started with getting to the bottom of whatever the hell Kody and his friends had going on. It was important to me and I wanted to know.

The second was get a car. I should have put it on my original to do list- if I had a car, Kody's friends wouldn't have to drive me from work.

I also wanted to spend some time with Kody. I wanted to get to know him. I hadn't even known he had a sister. Did he have any other siblings? What about his parents?

I wanted to know.

Luckily for me, Kody had texted me that morning asking to speak with me.

I had hastily agreed to meet him for dinner at a restaurant that was walking distance from Zeta Phi.

After class, I went with Jamie to buy Macy a birthday present.

"She won't wear that." He said shaking his head at a bracelet I was holding.

"I know." I mumbled. "It's pretty though."

He snatched the bracelet out of my hand. "That's not why we're here, Ezra. Get your head in the game."

I smiled. "Okay, how about that?" I said pointing across the mall.

There was a small kiosk selling body massagers.

Jamie scoffed. "I do my job pretty well, thank you very much."

I raised a brow. "First of all...Eww. TMI. Secondly, it's an actual body massager. Don't be gross."

When I headed towards the stand, he grabbed my arm. "No, Ezra. I'm not getting her that."

Now it was funny. "Why not?" I asked.

He rolled his eyes. "You're right. I should get that. Oh I know, I'll pair it with her ex boyfriend and Ashton Kutcher." He rambled sarcastically.

I tilted my head to the side. "Sarcasm does not become you." I said.

He shook his head, heading towards another store.

I smirked. "Well, I'm going to get it."

He grabbed me before I could take a step. "Why are you this way Ezra?" He sighed.

I laughed. "I'm just trying to get my friend a gift."

Why was I this way?

"Can you not? Come on, I'm trying to be serious here."

I cleared my face. "I'm serious. I'm getting her that massager."

He groaned, squaring his shoulders before tugging me in the opposite direction. "You're an embarrassment. You're making a scene."

I leaned back. "You're making a scene. I'm just trying to-"

"Is there a problem here?"

I paused, standing up straight.

Kody stood, staring at us, his eyes dark and his fists clenched. His eyes were trained on Jamie's hand wrapped around my arm.

I cleared my throat, freeing myself.

Oh, shit.
