Chapter 659
Maeve watched silently as Bailey spun his web of deceit. She had long learned that Conner sent Bailey to Yewridge while she was recording the show on the island.
Over the past few months, her disruptions of Jefferson Group's subsidiary acquisitions had severely damaged the Jeffersons' standing in Yewridge.
Initially, Conner had dismissed the company's losses as minor.
But as the situation escalated toward bankruptcy, he remained oblivious, focused solely on confronting Mirage Group and Mason. Ignoring the severity of the situation, he sent Bailey to manage the mess.
Maeve reflected on Conner's blindness. The Jefferson family might not last another two days. Perhaps staying in Yewridge and watching Conner's empire crumble under his mismanagement was the best course of action.
"What's got you smiling?" Liam's voice pulled Maeve from her thoughts.
She noticed Bailey had left unnoticed.
Maeve replied, "I just find you quite impressive, Mr. Larson."
With that, she set down her toast. "I'm full now. Enjoy your meal, Mr. Larson."
Maeve turned and headed upstairs to her room. As she did, a group of men entered the hotel lobby and immediately spotted her.
One of them whispered, "Isn't that the woman Peter was looking for?"
"It looks like it's her!"
They checked the photo and confirmed it was Maeve, the former Mrs. Brooks.
"This is too easy! Let's take care of her tonight and collect our commission."
"First, let's meet Mr. Larson."
"Alright."
The men approached the lobby where Liam sat alone, sipping coffee.
One of them stated, "Mr. Larson, just as you suspected, we've found no mechanical issues with the plane. Conner is definitely up to something by keeping you here."
"Is that all?"
"Yes."
"Then get out," Liam snapped.
"Yes, Mr. Larson..." The men hastily retreated, visibly dejected.
Liam gazed out at the Yewridge skyline, a smirk playing on his lips. The situation had become intriguing.
…
Meanwhile, Zion and Charlie were preparing to head to Laventon, their departure timed to ensure they would arrive ahead of Liam, who would need to change flights.
Just then, Zion's phone buzzed. He glanced at the message from Conner mentioning that Maeve was being held by Liam in Yewridge.
Zion's eyes widened in alarm.
"Zion! Are you ready? We should—"
Charlie emerged, and Zion quickly interrupted, "Change our tickets to Yewridge!"
"What? Yewridge? Isn't Maeve supposed to be in Laventon with Liam?" asked Charlie.
