Chapter 95

Eliana found herself in a hospital ward when she came to. She sat up slowly to see that Aidan was beside her - ignoring him, she leaped out of bed to make a beeline for the door. Just as she was about to, however, Aidan grabbed her by the wrist and stopped her. “Where do you think you’re going?” he demanded. Eliana simply shook her head vigorously and tried to open the door, only for Aidan to pin her against it. “There’s no point,” he stated, “It’s too late. Eddie…” Eliana couldn’t stop trembling as she croaked hoarsely, “Eddie...he’s dead, isn’t he?” “No, he’s not - he survived the surgery…” Aidan muttered, “However, he is...no longer a man…” Eliana closed her eyes in agony, her heart aching for her brother as soon as she heard this - she pressed her back against the door and slid down slowly until she sat down onto the floor. “By the way, Travis investigated further into the death of Evan,” Aidan informed, “He found that you had nothing to do with his death - instead, it was the nanny who wanted to use him to get back at you…” Before he could finish his sentence, Eliana raised her hand and sent a tight slap across Aidan’s face. “Eliana, don’t think that I’ll let you off the hook just because it’s been proven that you’ve nothing to do with Evan’s death,” Aidan snarled, “You’re still the same old Eliana, vicious and malicious…” Just then, Eliana grabbed Aidan by the collar and pulled him towards her, “Is - Evan - my - child?” she asked, deliberately enunciating each word. Aidan frowned at her without saying anything - seeing his expression, Eliana suddenly clasped her hands over her ears and started to screech and bawl. Aidan was momentarily startled and caught off-guard - he hadn’t expected Eliana to find out, let alone for her to react like this. Just when Aidan thought that it couldn’t get any worse, Eliana raised her hands and started to slap herself - she hated herself to the core. She couldn’t believe that she’d failed to recognize Evan as her own child, her own flesh and blood - it should’ve been obvious when he’d rejected Laura and chose her over the latter. She couldn’t imagine the pain and suffering that Evan had to go through over the past two years… She hated herself so much for failing to protect Evan, her own child. “Stop it, get a hold of yourself,” Aidan suddenly spoke up and grabbed Eliana’s hands, “What can you achieve by acting so hysterical, huh?” Just then, Eliana reached out to claw at Aidan’s neck - she screeched, “Aidan, you idiot - it should’ve been you who died! I want you to give Evan back to me! GIVE EVAN BACK TO ME!!!” She then started to scratch at Aidan’s face with her nails. Aidan grabbed Eliana’s wrists and twisted them slightly to apprehend her, “Shut up, Eliana,” he snapped, “Even if you hadn’t killed him directly, you killed him indirectly - just think about your foul character and attitude.” Eliana froze at this - yes, Aidan was right. She’d indeed killed Evan. She’d already killed him by failing to protect him from Laura. Eliana was overwhelmed by immense guilt and regret. Just then, Aidan grabbed Eliana roughly by her wrists and hurled her onto the bed, “Go back to bed and stay there,” he growled, “Don’t you dare disobey me, and don’t you dare bring up Evan ever again - you don’t have the right to do any of these.”
