Aaron’s POV
Caspian barks in a panic. I’m not quite sure if he’s barking out a threat to the shadows that just swallowed our mate or if he’s barking nervously in fear. Maybe he’s not sure either.
As the shadows slither into a solid form, Caspian sniffs the air, but the jasmine scent is gone. He can’t smell the Omega right in front of him. He can’t smell a wolf or human at all.
His heart races right alongside mine.
I wonder if I should shift so that I can call out her name.
You promised, he reminds me urgently, though I sense his desperation is directed more at our mate. Where did she go?
I want him to leap into those shadows and find her. I do not understand whether this is her doing or someone else’s, and if our mate is in danger, we need to help her. Now.
Caspian seems to agree as he leans back on his hind legs, preparing to lunge. But just before he jumps, a form emerges from the shadows.
