Aaron’s POV
I consider not answering my father’s call, but I know that if I ignore him, he’ll only show up on my doorstep. I click into the call.
“Father,” I barely greet him as I close the back door behind me.
He doesn’t notice my lack of enthusiasm to be speaking with him – or if he does, he doesn’t care to mention it. “I’ve been thinking about that little problem of yours.”
I’m not sure if it’s because I’m on the phone with someone I’m considering increasingly to be a threat, but I lock the back door, too. “What little problem?”
“Your ex-wife and current political opponent.”
I roll my eyes. “Does she get a vote every time you say her name?” I ask sarcastically.
A pause. “What?”
“I’m just wondering,” I fall back onto my couch, lying down for what I expect to be a draining conversation, “why you refuse to say her name.”
“I don’t refuse to say her name.”
“Then say it,” I challenge, Caspian backing me up with a low growl I wish my father could hear.
