#Chapter80
Mae’s POV
I let the shadows recede back to their sources, gaze pinned to Aaron who’s still holding Henry back, still reassuring him that I’m safe.
That the shadows are my own.
The second they can see me again, Henry rips out of Aaron’s grasp, leaping toward me as he inspects me for injuries. He cups my face in his hands. “Are you okay, Mae?”
My gaze is still glued to Aaron. His eyes flit between Henry and me, not an ounce of the concern Henry exudes etched on my ex-husband’s face.
“I’m fine.”
Henry heaves a huge sigh of relief. “Is it true? Is that your power?”
Aaron finally seems to notice my unblinking stare, and his eyebrows furrow slightly.
“Yeah, Aaron, are shadows my power?” I repeat.
Henry slowly turns to look between us, but I don’t care because the look in Aaron’s eyes suddenly changes as he clearly realizes he accidentally slipped. His jaw slackens, and his eyes grow wide in fearful anticipation.
“Why did you hold Henry back from the shadows, Aaron?”
