Chapter 21

Vera was walking home that night. Suddenly, she felt a cold wind sweep over her. She hunched her shoulders as an ominous feeling rose in her chest, quickening her pace. Suddenly, a dark figure lunged out from an alley and clamped a hand over her mouth and nose. Before she could call for help, everything went black. When she opened her eyes again, Vera found herself in a dim basement. Cameron sat on a couch nearby, staring at her intently. Vera panicked instantly, eyeing Cameron warily. "What do you want?" Cameron stood and walked toward Vera, then he stomped down hard on her thigh. "Vera, you dared go after Margot? You even hired men to defile her?" Vera shook her head frantically. "I don't know what you're talking about! All I know is that Margot fooled around with men herself. It has nothing to do with me." Cameron ground his foot down on the back of Vera's hand.
