Chapter 155 Smoke and Signals
Katelyn’s POV
Smoke stung my eyes and filled my lungs as I moved deeper into the ruined lobby. My phone was slippery in my hand, the live stream shaky but unbroken.
Every few seconds, I coughed, fighting to keep my voice steady.
All around me, the building’s skeleton glowed orange and red in the flickering emergency lights, casting wild shadows across shattered glass and overturned furniture.
“Hang in there, Katelyn,” Jamie’s voice urged, low but steady in my earpiece. “Just keep filming and stay safe, all right?”
I squinted through the haze, trying to keep my camera steady and not drop my phone.
I could barely see where the hallways once divided. Somewhere to my left, I heard glass pop, sharp and sudden.
Jamie’s voice crackled in my earpiece. “Katelyn, can you see the east stairwell? I just slipped past the security gate, there’s something weird back here.”
