Katelyn’s POV
Allen picked Ethan up from the hospital and drove him straight home after the doctors cleared him. Watching him step out of the car with steady steps felt unreal after the weeks of worry.
He stood straighter than I remembered. His expression was calm. His movements were sure. It told me his body was fine, even if everything around us was not.
Inside his living room, he turned to me. “Let's go out,” he said. “A picnic for the three of us.”
The request surprised me. “Now? You just got home.”
“That’s why,” he said. “I want to do something good and simple outside with you and Lucas.”
