#Chapter 252: The Seance
Ella’s POV
I woke to the subtle glow of the soft early morning light filtering through the nursery curtains. My neck ached from sleeping hunched over the crib, and my arms were stiff and sore, but I immediately sat up and checked on Lucien.
His color was better; he was still pale, but definitely had a little more color to his cheeks than yesterday. The swelling in his face had gone down slightly, and his breathing seemed easier, not so labored and strained. When I reached out to touch his forehead, his skin was warm but not feverish.
Relief washed over me. He was stable.
My stomach suddenly cramped painfully, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten in over a day. Maybe longer. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had a proper meal. The thought of leaving Lucien alone didn’t exactly fill me with joy, but I needed food if I was going to be any good to him.
Standing carefully, I leaned over the crib and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead. “I’ll be right back,
