Ella’s POV I woke to the subtle glow of the soft early morning light filtering through the nursery curtains. My neck ached from sleeping hunched over the crib, and my arms were stiff and sore, but I immediately sat up and checked on Lucien. His color was better; he was still pale, but definitely had a little more color to his cheeks than yesterday. The swelling in his face had gone down slightly, and his breathing seemed easier, not so labored and strained. When I reached out to touch his forehead, his skin was warm but not feverish. Relief washed over me. He was stable. My stomach suddenly cramped painfully, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten in over a day. Maybe longer. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had a proper meal.
