Chapter 7278
Lanny held a worn ledger in her hands as she and Harvey were inside her office.
It was a forged ledger. But there were times when even a forged article could be mistaken for the genuine one.
Harvey's casual remark had sparked an inspiration in Lanny, though she was still trying to figure out how to act on it. Harvey wasn't in a hurry, so he simply sipped his tea.
Now that he had entrusted Lanny with the casino, there was no point in second-guessing her. He believed in delegating fully or not at all. He was certain that Lanny would use this opportunity to strike at Dan decisively.
Just as Harvey was about to leave, a soft knock came from the office door. A uniformed staff member walked in and bowed respectfully. She placed a freshly brewed cup of coffee on Lanny's desk. "Your hand-ground coffee, Ms. Lanny."
"Thanks," Lanny said with a nod. After she left, she gave Harvey a glance.
"Mr. Harvey, I know you prefer tea, but I'm different. I like things that hit quickly. Coffee, for example. It keeps me awake. Want a sip?"
As she spoke, she picked up a small pitcher of milk and poured it all into the coffee. She stirred briefly and was going to drink it all up.
"I wouldn't drink that if I were you," Harvey said as he gave the cup a glance. "Because it won't help you stay awake. It will make you sleep forever instead."
The staff, who was already at the door, suddenly froze.
Lanny's brow raised with suspicion.
Harvey then continued, "Food in this world is mostly harmless by itself. But there are times they can become lethal when combined together. For example, lemon and milk, as well as honey and ghee. But even fewer know that bananas and milk can't be mixed together. These combinations make them indigestible, and it would hurt the gut. With that caffeine thrown in? You'll die if you don't get it flushed out of your system."
Lanny blinked. "Banana?"
Harvey calmly said, "This is your favorite civet coffee, right? Well, someone fed bananas to these civets. However, this kind of coffee is rare. It wouldn't do much if only a few beans were mixed in with other beans. Even a full cup is fine… As long as you don't add milk. But now that you drink an entire cup with so much milk added in, I find it hard not to suspect foul play…"
Harvey then turned and looked at that staff with a smile. "Don't tell me you found such rare coffee in the pantry? Or maybe you're going to tell me you ordered it online?"
The staff was stunned. Suddenly, she moved. Her right hand moved, and a needle launcher was revealed underneath her sleeve. She aimed it at Harvey and immediately fired.
Rainstorm Needles!
Harvey's expression turned cold as he slammed his hand on the table, sending the coffee and tray straight at the staff.
Bang!
Lanny had already stood up with her revolver already pulled out. She pulled the trigger…
