A few minutes later, a metal gurney was wheeled out. A white sheet covered the body, frosted stiff at the edges. As the attendant pulled it back, Catherine's face was revealed.
Her eyes were closed, her skin as pale as paper, her lips colourless. The brutal wound across her throat had been cleaned, but remained stark and disconcerting.
Leaning on the gurney, I pushed through the pain in my shoulder and watched closely. Her red dress was still stained with dried blood. Her hands were at her sides, her nails neatly manicured.
Then my eyes caught something.
“Anna, look here!” I pointed, my voice quivering with excitement. “There’s dried blood under her nails—and what looks like skin cells. This isn’t her blood.”
Jim's eyes burned with venomous hate, and every word dripped with venom. “You vicious witch! You killed my mother just to take her place as Luna! I’ll make sure the entire Galaxy Pack sees you for what you are—you’ll be cursed and despised forever!”
