Chapter 9
Emilia thought about it and felt uneasy, so she went back and knocked on Brisa's door.
"Brisa, are you really okay? Should we go to the hospital to get you examined?"
Brisa opened the door and playfully took her hand, "Mom, I just took a nap and I'm fine now."
Then she leaned her head on Emilia's shoulder and said, "In this life, being able to find you and receive your meticulous love is like a dream. I'm afraid that one day the dream will end, and I'll have to go back to that home..."
Emilia was originally smiling, but when she heard Brisa's last sentence, she frowned. "What's wrong? Are your adoptive parents not treating you well?"
Brisa bit her lip and lowered her head slowly, "My foster mother... she lies too much. She always says that she graduated from a ivy-league university, but I have never seen her graduation certificate."
"My adoptive family is very poor. I want to work hard and earn a wealthy life, but my foster mother always scolds me, saying that I'm vain..."
"That's too much!" Emilia was furious. "It turns out they're just country bumpkins who can't even make it to the city. Looks like I don't need to compensate them anymore!"
Originally, she and Trevon had discussed going to see this rural couple in person and giving them a large sum of money as a thank you for raising Brisa for so many years.
Unexpectedly, they treated their own daughter like this, indulging in lying and even saying that her daughter, Emilia, was vain!
"Brisa, don't be afraid. From now on, you're my precious daughter. Mom won't let you suffer any grievances." Emilia comforted her with a gentle voice.
Brisa said, "Mom, I'm not suffering. Being able to return to your side makes me very satisfied."
Seeing her so sensible and sweet-tongued, Emilia's liking for her biological daughter grew stronger.
She held Brisa's hand and whispered, "Aunt Zara has already prepared the room next door. You're the real heiress of the Brown family, so it's only natural that you should have that room."
However, Brisa lowered her head obediently and said, "Mom, can you not be so hasty?"
"What's wrong?" Emilia asked, puzzled.
Brisa looked up at her and said, "Deborah has just found out about her true identity. She must be feeling very upset now."
"Besides, if we send her back to the countryside too soon, others will surely gossip."
"After all, she has been their daughter for so many years, and hasn't done anything wrong. Why don't we let her stay at home for a few more days until she accepts the reality, and then send her back? Is that okay?"
Brisa lowered her head again, seemingly obedient, "As for the room, I'm fine staying here. After all, that is where Deborah has lived for so many years. I think..."
Upon hearing this, Emilia felt both relieved and sentimental.
She affectionately touched Brisa head and said, "Having such a kind and sensible daughter like you is truly a blessing from the past life."
Over the years, because of Deborah, Trevon had suspected Emilia of infidelity numerous times.
The two had argued and almost divorced multiple times because of Deborah.
At that time, she had no knowledge of Deborah's true identity and had to endure the unfair treatment.
Now that the truth had been revealed, she realized that she had taken out her frustrations on Deborah due to the mistreatment she had suffered.
It wasn't until Brisa pleaded with her that she decided not to expel Deborah.
As for where Deborah would go, it was not her concern.
Her focus was on her biological daughter, Brisa.
They had been separated for 18 years due to various misunderstandings and circumstances, and she wanted to make up for lost time.
"By the way, your father has already enrolled you in the Edeah International School. When school starts, you will go there to register."
Brisa's eyes sparkled slightly as she hesitated for a moment. "But, can I ask you something? I'd like to let Deborah take me to school tomorrow to familiarize myself with the environment. Is that alright?"
Emilia hesitated for a moment before agreeing, "Okay, but after she takes you to see the school, she will no longer be a student at Edeah International School. Your father has transferred her spot to you."
Upon hearing this, Brisa felt ecstatic.
Great!
Was this the first gift she received after returning to the Brown family? She wondered what Deborah's expression would be if she found out that she no longer had a spot at the school.
She had heard Deborah was academically talented, but so what?
The tuition fees for Edeah International School were known to be exorbitant. Could Deborah afford it?
At the thought of this, Brisa suppressed a smug smile.
But she concealed her delight and said, "Mom, I'm going to find Deborah now and ask her to accompany me to school tomorrow."
"Okay."
Observing the well-behaved and obedient Brisa, Emilia felt relieved. Despite her poor and unscrupulous rural parents, Brisa showed good character and did not go astray.
She was truly Emilia's daughter, born to be a sensible and obedient child.
Now, Brisa had returned to the Brown family, but the news had not yet been made public.
It seemed that she would have to prepare a grand recognition banquet for Brisa, so that everyone in Edeah would know that Brisa was the true heiress of the Brown family!
In the room next door.
Aunt Zara grumbled as she packed Deborah's clothes, sarcastically saying, "Deborah Benson, I never would have thought that you were not a daughter of the Brown family, but rather a country bumpkin's child. Oh, what a pity for these branded clothes and bags, you may never be able to afford them in your lifetime!"
Deborah's identity had just been exposed, and Aunt Zara was already eager to show her true colors, truly mocking.
If it had been the last life, Deborah would have been upset and puzzled.
But in this life, she didn't care anymore.
"Deborah," Brisa said as she pushed open the door and walked in, "I want to talk to you about something."
When Aunt Zara saw her, she immediately fawned over her and greeted her, "Miss, you're here?"
Brisa felt disgusted at the sight of her and frowned, "You have no business here, leave!"
Aunt Zara's smile stiffened, and she awkwardly left.
After she left, Brisa immediately walked up to Deborah, "Deborah, my father arranged for me to attend Edeah International School. Can you accompany me tomorrow to get familiar with the environment?"
She then pretended to be sad. "My mom said that the quota for Edeah International School is tight, so my dad could only arrange for one person, and he gave your spot to me."
"Deborah, don't be sad. You're such a outstanding person, you can shine wherever you go, even if it's just an ordinary school!"
Her venom seeped through her words.
Deborah smiled vaguely at her, silently watching her acting.
Without saying a word, Deborah maintained the same expression throughout the entire conversation.
The outcome was far beyond what Brisa had expected. Her face stiffened, and she forcefully pinched her palm with her fingers, trying to force a smile. "Also, you don't have to worry about going back to accompany your parents. I've already talked to my mother, and you can continue to live here."
"Are you done talking?" Deborah asked coldly.
Brisa hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yes, I am."
Why was it like this? It wasn't what she had imagined. Shouldn't Deborah be angry, sad, and rush out to confront her parents?
"Okay, then give me my parents' phone number," Deborah said nonchalantly, extending her hand.
Brisa choked on her breath and almost suffocated.
Was this Deborah's response?
How could she just ask for the contact information of her biological parents? What was so good about that rural couple?
"My phone is broken. I plan to go get it fixed tomorrow morning."
Brisa stared at Deborah, and a sinister light flashed in her eyes. "As it happens, I'm meeting a few friends tomorrow at the Fallen Cherry Hotel, room 1086. You can go there first and meet my friends. I'll fix my phone and come find you and give you the number. Is that okay?"
Deborah raised her eyebrows slightly. "Okay!"
