Kael sat stiffly in his seat at the long council table, barely paying attention to the words circling him.
His mind kept drifting back to the previous night, replaying the moment his fist connected with Adam’s cheek.

He knew he should have handled the situation better, especially with Esme watching, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that Adam was hiding something—something dangerous.
And when he and Esme questioned him about his whereabouts that night, he remained unrelenting, not even once spilling any truth to his words.
Kael’s hands clenched into fists at the thought. Adam had always been reckless, always pushing boundaries, but this was different.
