Chapter 259

Derek's POV I smiled helplessly, "John, I did some things that upset her. But you've got nothing to worry about. I'll see to it that she forgives me." Faced with John's concerns, I tried my best to show confidence and determination. "I'm glad, Derek. I know you still love her." John's tone was filled with expectations and trust in us. Seeing the confidence on my face, he continued, "It's not easy for a person to meet someone they love and who loves them back, not to mention ending up together. Don't let the chance slip. You two are meant to be together." His tone showed his concern for Tabitha and his expectations of me. "I know, John. I'll treat her right forever," I answered firmly, hoping that could reassure him. He smiled gently, "I told you already. You don't have to give me a foot massage at all. You're a pack's Alpha, and if word gets out, others will look down upon you." He always looked out for me and didn't want me to be looked down upon because of these trivial matters. "Why would they? You're like my dad, and I ought to do so. Don't worry. Just focus on getting better and leave the rest to me." I comforted him, hoping that this could make his worries go away. It was already 10 p.m. when I came out of his room, and Tabitha's room was still lit up. When I pushed the door open and entered, she was lying on the bed reading a medical book and didn't even look up when she heard me come in. I walked up to her, turned up the light a bit, and said gently, "It's too dark, and it will hurt your eyes." Tabitha closed the book, rolled her eyes at me, and then lay on the bed, covering her head with a blanket, not wanting to see me at all. In the past, at this time, I always knew that I should give her space, but today, I could no longer run away from it. I sat down by her bed and then spoke softly, "Tabitha, I am gonna marry Daphne." In the next second, she coldly replied, "I see. I'm not your mom. No need to report to me." She popped her head out of the blanket because she was feeling stuffy. I stared out the window at the streetlight blankly. Some moths were flying randomly in the light. "Tabitha, I don't love her. I never have." I murmured, hoping that she would understand. Tabitha rolled her eyes again, clearly not buying it. "I don't love Daphne. It's pure responsibility. Actually, I..." Before I could finish speaking, she suddenly threw off the blanket and got up, rushing towards the bathroom. I quickly followed after her. "Tabitha, what's wrong with you?" She took a sip of water, rinsed her mouth, and then glared at me fiercely. "Don't say anything. Even the sight of you disgusts me." I stood in situ in a daze, not knowing what to do. "I am not interested in your relationship with Daphne. You want my blessing? Fine. I hope you two be together forever. I hope you have lots and lots of kids. Now get out of here. You're annoying me." Her words broke my heart. I knew she hated my guts right now. I wanted to say something but hesitated. In the end, I sighed and then turned around to leave. "I'll get out of your hair then. Good night," I said softly and gently closed the door. After the door was closed, through the crack in the door, I saw Tabitha sitting on the bed, lost in thought. I turned around and left, but soon the door was opened again, and she chased after me. I was surprised. "Tabitha, you..." Would there be any changes in her attitude? "You'd better keep it from Dad. I don't want him to be stimulated until he recovers." When I heard that, the last trace of hope in my heart was shattered; she just didn't want John to be affected. "I see." A tinge of disappointment flashed across my heart. But I knew it was what was best for John.
