Chapter 263

Derek's POV I vaguely felt that something was off. These days, Tabitha had become a lot grumpier. Perhaps it was because of my upcoming wedding with Daphne. I sighed and decided to go to John. Perhaps he could share with me some insights. He had a rough idea of what was going on when he saw how dejected I was. "She kicked you out again, didn't she? Tell me. What exactly did you do to upset her? It's been so long, but she still pulls a long face whenever she sees you." "There's been ... some misunderstandings," I said, knowing deep down that it was a lot more than that. "Well then. All you have to do is clear things up with her. After all, you're a couple, right?" John comforted me. I smiled helplessly, "She won't give me a chance to clear things up at all." Several times, I wanted to tell Tabitha about my relationship with Daphne, but she wouldn't even let me speak. "Derek, you're not getting younger. I know you were heartbroken when you lost the baby. Have you ever thought about having another baby with her? Kids are the bond between parents. No matter how upset she gets with you, she'll never take it out on kids." John's words set me thinking. I muttered, "Another baby?" I imagined Tabitha's face when I made the request. She might put her arms around her chest and sneer, "Baby? Yeah. After either you or Elena dies." Now most of my conversations with Tabitha had become like this. "Why haven't you died yet?" "Why are you here? Why haven't you topped yourself?" "The weather is so nice today. Why don't you top yourself? Haven't found a suitable cemetery for yourself yet?" "Derek, I saw a beautiful place today. It'll be the perfect place to bury you." "If you really don't wanna die, how about I die together with you? You'll feel a little more at ease then, won't you?" Whenever she saw me, there was nothing but mockery and sneer in her tone. I sensed no love for me in her words. Yet even so, I still felt somewhat happy. At least I got to see her all the time. After settling John, I went back to her room. As I pushed the door open, I saw her hand on her lower abdomen and a gentle smile on her face. However, the second she saw me, her gaze turned cold at once. She said, her voice sharp, "Don't you know you should knock before entering?" She was like a hedgehog covered with spikes. Whenever she saw me, she would stare at me intently, her hair standing on end. "Sorry." I stepped back and knocked on the door with a helpless smile on my face. I was at my own home, yet I felt like an intruder. "May I come in?" I asked patiently. Tabitha's voice rang out from inside. She said bluntly, "No. Go away." Yet I still pushed the door open and walked in. She raised one of her eyebrows and said, "How cheeky." I ignored her hostility and walked straight towards her. "Tabitha, I just wanna look at you." "Please don't. You sicken me," she said with a disgusted tone. I sighed, "Even so, I still wanna spend more time with you." "Don't blame me for puking on you then." Her words were harsh, but I knew that once she started vomiting, she wouldn't be able to control herself. I ignored her words. I picked up the tablet and moved closer to her. "Tabitha, this is the new collection of the next season. See if there's anything you like." I could have had the clothes delivered to her, but I chose to use such a way to bring us closer. In the past, when I was busy, I couldn't accompany Tabitha to stores to try on clothes, and she, being all considerate, cuddled up to me with the tablet while having me help her pick out clothes. Back then, she was so sweet. I was always her priority, and she never put me in a difficult situation. I figured she'd say something sarcastic again. To my surprise, she leaned over and took a glance. "This is a nice dress," she said. I was overjoyed, thinking that perhaps this was my chance. But before I could say anything, she continued, "I'm sure Daphne will look great in this when she gives a toast. Oh, sorry. I forgot that her legs were broken. She can no longer stand up, right? She'll have to do it in a wheelchair." I stood in situ with a sense of loss. Her sharp words once again hurt me.
