Chapter 264

Tabitha's POV I suddenly came up with a new strategy. I was all set to continually upset Derek. He restricted my freedom? Well then. I might as well be a pain in the ass for him. "Instead of picking out a dress, maybe I should think about which wheelchair will work better for Daphne. Of course, I have to be thoroughly prepared. If she doesn't recover well enough to sit up, we may have to get her a stretcher," I sarcastically said, secretly pleased. Derek fell silent. He showed no displeasure in the face of my sarcasm at all. Instead, he looked at me with distress in his eyes. I could tell how he felt, but I no longer cared. "Tabitha, does saying this make you happy? Really?" he asked softly. I sneered, "Of course. You all used to make me endure the pain and suffer. I get it now. I'm much happier when I let someone else suffer." He did not argue. He simply said, "As long as you are happy." His attitude surprised me, but I didn't get soft-hearted. "Of course, I'm happy. Derek, have you realized something? Whoever becomes your wife always gets unlucky. Your ex-wife has a broken hand, and the wife you're about to marry has broken legs. Are you destined to be with cripples?" I continued to mock, and my anger faded away a bit when I saw his gloomy face. "Well, I'm gonna go rest now. See yourself out," I said straightforwardly. "Good night, Tabitha." Derek had a snack brought in before he left slowly. I had no appetite. Yet at the thought of my baby, I forced myself to eat. However, this time, the reaction was even stronger. I vomited almost immediately. Standing behind me, Joanna patted my back sympathetically. "Ms. Hartley, this won't do. You're throwing up everything you eat. You've gotta go see a doctor." "No. You must keep it a secret. Don't tell anyone. It's just a normal early pregnancy reaction, and I've experienced it before," I said firmly. Joanna hesitated to speak. In the end, she said helplessly, "Then I'll go get you something to eat. If you keep vomiting like this, it'll be too much for you to take." I nodded. No matter how uncomfortable it was, I had to carry on for the sake of my baby. I must go through with it no matter how many times I ate and vomited. I was looking forward to the day I gave birth and saw my baby, who'd be the one I loved the most whether it was a baby boy or a baby girl. I'd protect my baby with my life. Simply thinking about my baby made me much soft-hearted. Every morning, I took the test and watched the results become more and more obvious. I knew for sure that I was pregnant, and I wanted to go to the hospital to have a B-ultrasound to make sure the baby was healthy. Derek didn't limit my freedom, but I couldn't just go to the hospital in plain sight. When I was distressed, an opportunity knocked on the door. Gloria collapsed from exhaustion after working continuously, so I took the opportunity to buy many things to visit her. As soon as I entered the ward, Gloria started complaining about her Alpha, and then she began to curse Derek because she had received a wedding invitation from Daphne. "Daphne is crazy! Don't you think, Tabitha? I heard she was still lying in bed and couldn't move at all. Yet she is still going through with the wedding?" Gloria said, puzzled. I smiled self-deprecatingly, "That's her dream." "Are you OK with this whole thing about Derek getting married again?" Gloria looked at me with concern, afraid that I still couldn't let go. I answered coldly, "Don't be silly. After what he did to me? I'm totally over him. I'd be a complete fool if I looked back." "I'm glad to hear you say that. I'm just worried that you still have feelings for him." "I've been such a fool for years," I sighed, having mixed feelings. But also, I was determined. I had to toughen up for my baby.
