Curtis leaned back in his seat, fingers curled around the envelope tucked inside his suit pants. He couldn't bring himself to take it out.
It wasn't until a chorus of car horns blared behind him that he finally hit the gas.
When he pulled into Cloudcrest Bay, he didn't get out. He just sat there, motionless. An hour later, he finally pulled out the letter.
But he didn't read it. He just tore the envelope in two and hurled it out the window, rage tightening in his chest. The scraps fluttered across the pavement like scattered pieces of a thought left unsaid.
Another half hour slipped by before he finally stepped out. He crouched down and began gathering the torn pieces.
Footsteps approached behind him. He didn't need to turn. He already knew it was Marceline.
She was on the phone, unaware he was crouching there.
"Yeah, I'm thinking about a divorce. I just wanted to ask what the process looks like. I'll have to take it to court if he refuses to sign the papers. Thanks. I appreciat
