Justin's father held up his hands in a placating gesture. “Please, just let me explain. I know I’ve made mistakes, but—”
“Mistakes?” I cut him off, my voice rising. “You think what you did was just a mistake? You don’t get to walk back into Justin’s life after years of causing so much pain and expect everything to be okay. It doesn’t work like that!”
Crap. Like seriously, what the heck was this man saying?
He flinched at my words, but I didn’t care. I was too angry to stop myself. All I could think about was what Justin had just shared with me—the years of abuse, the fear, the trauma. This man had caused so much suffering, and now he wanted to act like it could all be smoothed over with a conversation. No way.
“Camilla, please,” he tried again, his voice shaking. “I’m not proud of what I did, but I’m trying to make things right. Just let me talk to him.”
I shook my head, feeling a surge of protectiveness for Justin. “No. You don’t get to ‘make things right’ on your terms.
