Eva arrived at the office early in the morning, only to be summoned by human resources. Her heart sank. It had to be about the scene Miranda caused at the office yesterday. She figured Lucas would be there, too. Office romances had always been taboo in the workplace. When something blew up, it was always the low-level employee who took the fall first. She had long anticipated that this day might come. On her way to HR, she mentally went over every detail of her relationship with Lucas. As far as she could tell, there was nothing solid anyone could use against her. She steadied herself and pushed open the HR office door. Lucas was nowhere to be seen. She sat down at the desk. The HR representative didn't bother with any pleasantries and slid an envelope across the table, which contained her severance package. "You're fired." That was the last thing Eva expected, and she froze. All the things she'd prepared to say became useless. "Why? Is this because of what happened yesterday?"
