Chapter 1069 Kenneth Must Be Hiding Something
Frowning, Chloe looked at Joseph and shrugged. "Kenneth and I have barely had any contact in private."
Joseph looked at the phone and said, "Answer it."
"Okay." Chloe pressed the answer button and turned on the speaker mode. "Hello?"
Kenneth cleared his throat and greeted, "Hey Chloe, I heard you and Joseph are back together. Congrats."
"Are you calling just to congratulate me?" She laughed with a hint of sarcasm.
Kenneth fell silent for a moment, then said, "I’d like to apologize for my previous attitude toward you."
"Okay, but I don't accept your apology," Chloe replied, "You're not calling to plead on Xavia’s behalf, are you?"
Kenneth froze, then shouted, "What? No! Why would you think that?"
"Hey, why the big reaction? Feeling guilty?"
"You can refuse the apology, but can you drop the sarcasm?" Kenneth snarled.
Joseph frowned as if he sensed something.
Sighing, Chloe asked, "So why are you calling me?"
Kenneth took a deep breath to calm himself. "I just wanted to apologize to you. My father mentioned that Mr. Desmond likes pomegranates. Coincidentally, my friend sent me a few boxes of premium ones, and I thought of sending them to the Sullivan manor. Are you guys at home? I'll have someone deliver them tomorrow."
Chloe’s brows furrowed slightly. Kenneth sounded sincere, but she could not shake off the lingering sense of something amiss. "So you called me just to send some pomegranates? Well, I'm not home, but my grandfather is."
Kenneth nervously asked, "Where are you?"
"Where I go is none of your business," Chloe said, growing cautious. "If you want to send pomegranates, just send them. Even if my grandfather and I aren't at home, there are helpers and the butler. You don't have to call and ask where I am unless you're up to no good. Anyway, I'll say it this one time, and I won't repeat it again. You're a prince, Kenneth. Don't do anything stupid. If your father finds out, he might strip you of your title."
She was exaggerating things as she knew Kenneth saw himself as an upright young man who would not stoop to doing anything below the belt. However, she was convinced that there was an ulterior motive behind his apology, so she decided to test him.
"I didn't do anything!" Kenneth almost shouted in response, and immediately hung up the phone as if he had been caught doing something bad.
Chloe muttered, "That was so strange... Maybe my guess was right?"
Joseph glanced around and silently moved in to hug her. "Maybe."
"What?" She did not understand at first, but after a moment's pause, her eyes widened. "Are you saying that Kenneth is hiding something? Did he help Xavia? But why? He already knows what kind of person she is and should hate her to the core. Why would he help her?"
"Don't forget that Xavia is pregnant. It's only natural for people to unconsciously show her more care, especially since he’s the father to the baby in her womb."
"But why did he ask if I'm at home?"
As they walked out of the night market, the crowd thinned out and the lively environment quieted down. A chilly breeze swept through, sending a chill down their spines.
Joseph's face sank as he said, "I think someone’s following us."
"What?" Chloe was stunned. "But that doesn't make sense. We have bodyguards with us."
They had two bodyguards following them around while the rest remained on standby. There was no way they would not notice anything.
