Chapter 937 I'm Sorry, Mr. Noah
Chloe's words left the teacher and Jasper stunned. The teacher had encountered parents who unreasonably defended their children and those who treated a teacher's words as law. However, Chloe's response was both respectful and sensible, neither challenging the teacher's authority but still showing respect for the child's personality.
Though Chloe’s words were simple, they were comforting. Jasper tightened his grip on her hand as he was moved by her words. No one had ever defended him before. Even Xavia had never done this.
After the meeting with the teacher, they left the school. Chloe shielded them from the rain with an umbrella and casually asked, "Is your dad busy today?"
Before she could get an answer, Patrick and Harold appeared. Even though Harold had more wrinkles around his eyes than before, he was as cheerful as ever. He waved at Chloe. "Come, Chloe. I have something to tell you."
Chloe was puzzled for a few seconds. She looked down at Jasper, and understanding dawned on her. The parent-teacher meeting was not the main focus.
"Grandpa, let's find a restaurant to eat and talk," she suggested.
With the worsening weather, it was not suitable for Jasper and Harold to stay outside for too long.
"We have snacks in the car. Let's talk there," Patrick suggested, "I hope you won't mind, Ms. Chloe. It's safer in the car, and there's someone who wants to meet you. If possible, bring Mr. Desmond as well. His presence would be ideal."
A loud clap of thunder echoed, followed by large raindrops splattering on Chloe's arm. In an instant, her clothes were drenched.
Without hesitation, Chloe picked up Jasper and hurried toward the car. Harold watched her instinctive actions and smiled with satisfaction. Chloe genuinely cared for Jasper. Only a real mother would care for their child, and anyone could see who truly loved the child. Xavia was nothing compared to Chloe. That woman had caused Jasper so much suffering during his childhood.
As Chloe got into the car, she noticed Eustace, who was bound tightly. She eyed him suspiciously. Wasn't this man working for Noah?
Harold handed her a cup of hot tea and explained, "When you were kidnapped yesterday, Jas was almost taken too."
Chloe was stunned. She pointed at Eustace. "Was he the one who did it?"
"Yes, the whole process was captured on the school's cameras. We'll watch it together when Mr. Desmond arrives."
*
Desmond, a few years younger than Harold, was participating in a senior citizens' chess competition. He had yet to finish his game when Chloe called him. When he saw Harold and Jasper, his face sank.
When Patrick pulled up the surveillance footage, Desmond was stunned. He accidentally spilled the tea in his hand. He had not seen Eustace many times, but he knew that Eustace worked for Noah.
Kidnapping a minor was illegal! Desmond had no idea why Noah would do something like this!
Chloe, who had been silent, suddenly stood up and removed the cloth stuffed in Eustace's mouth. She demanded, "Why did you try to kidnap Jas? Was it your idea, or did someone put you up to it?"
Eustace opened his mouth but then hesitated. He looked at Desmond. Noah had given him a second chance at life, but Joseph had promised a fresh start for his daughter. Eustace could not do anything to change his life, but he could not let the same happen to his daughter.
'I'm sorry, Mr. Noah. Please forgive me for my selfishness. I just want to spend a few more years with Aggie. I want to watch her grow up, get married, and have children of her own.'
Eustace took a deep breath. He met Desmond's piercing gaze and revealed everything.
