Chapter 938 No! He’ll Be Fine!
"Mom, why does Mr. Noah treat me like this? Did I do something wrong?" Jasper asked, forcing tears out of his eyes as Joseph had instructed him to do.
Chloe felt a pang in her chest. She knelt down to wipe away his tears. "It's not your fault. I’m the one who failed to protect you." She could not believe Noah would do this.
Desmond was too furious to speak. He trembled as his face turned red with rage. "I'll give the Whitmans an explanation. For now, I need to take this man."
"No problem," Harold readily agreed. Noah's action had harmed his grandchildren. He had only endured it for this long because of Chloe.
Desmond nodded. His anger surged again when he recalled the words of caution from Harold at the wedding a few days ago. However, what struck him even more was a profound sense of disappointment. It was disheartening to see that his advice to Noah had fallen on deaf ears.
Under normal circumstances, Desmond would have insisted that Chloe return home with him to avoid further contact with the Whitmans. However, he was so angry that he forgot to do so today. Instead, he had ordered his men to take Eustace to the Sullivan manor. At the same time, he also ordered Noah to return home.
"Mom, I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me," Jasper reassured Chloe.
Seeing how well-behaved and understanding Jasper was, Chloe's eyes welled up with tears. She turned her head away. "What about your dad?"
Jasper pressed his lips together. "He went to find Grandma."
"Huh?"
"Duskfall took Frieda yesterday," Harold explained in a heavy tone, "It happened the same time when you and Jasper were kidnapped."
Chloe's heart skipped a beat. "It happened at the same time? That can’t be a coincidence. Does this mean that Jas and I weren’t their main targets? They were just diverting our attention so that they could go after Frieda."
The more she thought about it, the more terrified she became.
"We also find it hard to believe it's just a coincidence. That's why Joseph set off for Duskfall early this morning with his men. He didn't tell you because he didn’t want you to worry. The whole thing is filled with dangers. He said that if anything happens to him, he'll entrust Jasper to you."
"No! He’ll be fine!" Chloe refuted, her whole body starting to tremble.
Harold let out a long sigh. He was getting old and could only place his faith in Joseph. Nobody wanted to see their offspring die earlier than themselves. He had already experienced it, and it would be unbearable for him to experience it another time.
Chloe slumped in her seat. It was afternoon now. There were still two hours until evening, and everything should be over by then. She fished out her phone and called Joseph, but his phone was switched off.
"Grandpa, do you have a way to contact Vince?" Chloe asked Harold.
"Yes, I do. Patrick, get Chloe Vince's phone number," Harold instructed.
They managed to get through to Vince.
"Who’s this?" The voice on the other end was low and somewhat impatient.
"It's Chloe. How are things going?" she asked anxiously, her tone betraying an unprecedented sense of urgency.
Vince had not expected it to be her and was momentarily stunned.
"Tell me how Joseph is. Why isn't he answering his phone?"
"It doesn't look good," Vince replied gravely.
Clenching her hand tightly, Chloe said without hesitation, "Give me the address. I'll go to you."
Vince sternly refused, "No, Mr. Joseph would never allow that. Just wait for us at home, Ms. Chloe."
If Joseph found out about this, he would kill him. He could not tell Chloe of their location. Besides, there was nothing she could do even if she came.
It went without saying that Chloe understood the gravity of the situation, but she still wanted to help. What if Joseph was in trouble? She wanted to see him one last time. No, she wanted to do everything in her power to rescue him from the jaws of death. She could not bear the thought of her son growing up without his father.
Chloe pushed aside her feelings for Joseph and focused entirely on her concern for her son. But as she could not get any information on Duskfall from Vince, she did not know what to do.
Then, Samuel called her.
