Chapter 947 The Toughest Part of Life Is Staying Alive

Before Joseph could respond, a commotion erupted outside, and Otto entered with his people. His face bore a wicked grin as he stepped aside to make way for those behind him. Dressed in white sportswear, Cyrus walked forward and fixed a mocking gaze on Joseph. "You coming to my place uninvited and taking away my people was extremely impolite.” "Yeah, if you wanted to see Frieda, you could’ve just told me. I would’ve helped you schedule a meetup. As a prestigious family, the Whitmans shouldn't engage in such sneaky activities.” Otto sneered, seemingly forgetting that it was Duskfall who had abducted Frieda. Joseph ignored them and stood by the bedside quietly with his head lowered. Shadows from the trees outside the window cast patterns on him, and an eerie aura surrounded him. The room fell strangely silent. Otto felt that something was amiss. He shoved Vince aside and glanced into the room. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the flatline on the heart rate monitor and shuddered. "Father, Frieda is…" Cyrus smirked coldly, "What is it? Is she playing dead again? She’s been doing this for so many years. This act has gotten old." "No… She's truly dead this time. There's a flatline on the heart rate monitor," Otto said, his voice trembling. If Frieda had died in the Whitmans' place, it would not have been his concern. However, if something had happened to her while she was at Duskfall, he would be doomed. Cyrus was taken aback as he cautiously approached the bedside. When he saw Frieda lying lifeless on the bed, his face turned pale. He reached out and shook her in disbelief. "Stop pretending! I know you're not dead! Wake up!" Frieda had feigned her death many times. He was confident that she must be working together with Joseph to deceive him. With that thought in mind, a manic glint crossed his eyes as he ripped off all the devices attached to Frieda's body and shouted angrily, "I told you to stop pretending! Get up or I'll kill your son!" He refused to believe that he had caused her death. They had tormented each other for most of their lives. How could she suddenly be gone? She was so strong and never gave in to him. For her, death was not frightening. The toughest part of life was staying alive. No matter how he tortured or hurt her, she always found a way to survive. Why had she not done so this time? Joseph grabbed Cyrus by the collar and pulled him toward Frieda. "She's dead! She'll never wake up again, and it's because of you! You're going to pay for what you’ve done!" He started punching Cyrus over and over, but Cyrus did not fight back. His gaze remained fixed on Frieda as if hoping she would open her eyes and stop Joseph from hurting him. Or maybe he wished she would laugh when she saw Joseph hitting him and get up, telling him that he had fallen for their ruse. Unfortunately, his wish did not come true. Frieda was dead. Everyone was stunned. No one stepped in to stop Joseph. It was not until he knocked Cyrus unconscious that Otto finally came forward to stop him.
