Chapter 425
After the wedding, back at the hotel, Shelmaine removed her makeup and got ready for bed. Slightly tipsy, Samuel hugged her and grinned like a fool. "Honey, give me a kiss."
He had drunk a lot, and he reeked of alcohol. She didn't exactly dislike it, but she wouldn't say she liked it either. She rubbed his head and said, "Time for bed."
"I want to hold my honey when we sleep."
Shelmaine didn't respond. Samuel clung to her tightly and wrapped around her like an octopus. She didn't sweat as the room's air conditioning was low. Yet, his clinginess made it tough for her to get proper rest.
"Can you let go, Samuel?"
He complied and adjusted his position so that he wasn't pressing down on her anymore. He draped his arm across her chest and leaned in to kiss her.
The taste of alcohol was overwhelming—he'd clearly drunk a lot.
After their intimate moment, Shelmaine locked herself in the bathroom and refused to let Samuel enter. He knocked on the door, pleading, "Honey, open the door…"
"What do you want?"
"Honey, are you mad at me? Please don't be. It's my fault—I'll be gentler next time."
Shelmaine opened the door and stepped out, fully dressed. She shot him an irritated glare. "Can't you just behave for once?"
"Honey… you said you were pregnant earlier. Is that true?"
"So you think I'm lying."
Samuel quickly responded, "No, I'm just shocked and surprised… Did I hurt you?"
"Nope, but we can't get physical for the first three months. Don't touch me again."
Samuel felt joyful and disappointed at the same time. He was happy about their child but sad there wouldn't be intimacy.
"Honey, don't be so cruel to me, alright?"
"Also, you were ignoring my feelings earlier. You know my body isn't in the best condition. My past miscarriage and illness had something to do with you."
At her words, Samuel completely sobered up. "I'm sorry, honey. I promise I'll never do that again."
She pushed him aside. "Alright, let's see how you behave. I'm tired, so I'm going to bed."
"Honey, when did you get pregnant? How far along are you? Why didn't you tell me? Have you gone to the hospital for a checkup? Let's go tomorrow, alright?"
"I've gone for a checkup. The report's in the drawer—take a look if you want to."
Samuel took the report from the drawer and had a look. He was overjoyed, but that feeling was followed by unease. He carefully placed the report back in the drawer and climbed into bed.
This time, he didn't press down on Shelmaine. Instead, he held her waist and gently caressed her belly. "Honey, thank you for giving me a chance. Thank you so much."
Ignoring him, she pretended to be asleep.
The next morning, Samuel ordered breakfast and ate it with her.
He suggested, "Let's postpone our honeymoon. Your condition is still unstable since you just got pregnant. Let's not join their chaos yet."
"No, I've already made plans with Isabelle to visit the hot springs. Only she'll be soaking."
"I'll come too."
"It's just the two of us ladies. What does that have to do with you? Don't disturb us."
"Honey…" Samuel gave Shelmaine yet another longing look, his eyes fishing for sympathy. He was very skilled at looking aggrieved.
Dressed in a cream-colored dress, she had no accessories on—not even her wedding ring. She grabbed her phone and headed to Isabelle's room. He followed her there.
When they arrived, they stumbled upon Luke and Isabelle making out passionately. The door was ajar, but they were so engrossed that they didn't notice Samuel and Shelmaine standing there.
During the wedding ceremony last night, Isabelle had kept her distance from Luke, but his eyes never left her the whole time.
Shelmaine pretended she hadn't seen anything and walked off, dragging Samuel along with her. She glared at him and demanded, "What did Luke tell you?"
"Nothing. I don't know anything at all, especially about him and Isabelle. I'm completely in the dark!" he quickly clarified.
