Chapter 311
Giselle found these words very sensible.
Giselle and 18th Liner chatted and drank well into the night. Slightly tipsy, they each departed for their homes.
The next day, an army of messages woke Giselle. Opening them, she was surprised to find they were from Nolan.
He had sent her his airport location in Frystonia.
"Sis, we agreed, you need to treat me to a meal."
When had she agreed to that?
Giselle rubbed her head, not having expected Nolan to have so much free time.
"Just enjoy yourself in Frystonia."
She replied briefly and put down her phone, laying in bed to sober up. Once she was alert, she got up, got dressed, and headed to the hospital.
Only upon arrival did she discover Yan Zhexiao's trouble wasn't big. The doctor said it was due to overwork, and his body couldn't handle it momentarily. A rest of ten to fifteen days in the hospital would suffice.
Upon seeing Yan Zhexiao, Giselle noticed his complexion was still good and he didn't seem overly tired.
When Giselle arrived at the hospital, Yan Zhexiao was the only one in the ward.
Upon seeing Giselle, Yan Zhexiao was genuinely pleased. He sat up in bed straight away. "Giselle, you came back?"
Giselle walked in, answered indifferently, "Didn't you ask me to?"
"I'm very happy that you came back." Yan Zhexiao looked quite relieved, "You still care for your father after all."
Giselle said, "I was worried that you were seriously ill. I came here at least to listen to your last will, didn't I?"
"I know that you resent me for not treating you well in the past." Harrison sighed, "It was because of a misunderstanding. Now I know that you are my daughter, I won't treat you unfairly. Whatever Peipei has, you will have too."
Upon hearing Gloria's name, Giselle frowned and asked, "So, why did you call me back?"
Harrison responded, "My health is deteriorating day by day. It's time for someone to take over the Hawk family. I called you back so you could get used to it."
"Do you intend me to be your successor?" Giselle was skeptical.
Seeing Giselle's suspicion, Harrison sighed again. He said, "Whether you believe me or not, Liangliang, ever since I found out that you are my biological child, I've been wanting to make it up to you. I feel so guilty. Guilty for you and guilty for your mother. I genuinely loved your mother, you wouldn't understand the emotions I went through when I discovered the truth."
Harrison's regret was written all over his face. "If only things were different, our family of three would've been living happily."
These words from Harrison didn't resonate in Giselle's heart.
However, she clearly knew that Harrison feeling guilty is better than him feeling nothing. She should take advantage of his guilt and his desire to make amends.
The Hawk family had two children. For the Hawk family business, it would either belong to her or to Gloria. She didn't plan to give way at all.
Giselle sniffled, her voice choking up a little, she said, "Do you know, I've been wondering since I was a child why you never loved me. Do you know how much I've always longed for paternal love?"
Harrison felt extremely uncomfortable. He said to Giselle, "Liangliang, trust your dad. Dad will make up for your past."
"Dad."
As soon as Harrison's words have fallen, Gloria's voice comes from the entrance.
As she came in, it seemed as if the touching drama between this father and daughter stung her. She furrowed her brows, but soon raised a smile.
"Sister’s back."
Holding fruits in her hand, Gloria said, "Dad, I bought all the fruits you love."
She placed the fruits on the table, then turned to look at Giselle. The smile on her face didn’t look insincere, "When did sister come back? Why didn’t you say anything? I would’ve picked you up."
Giselle took a glance at Gloria, assessing her, scrutinizing her...
Gloria didn't seem to mind, she let Giselle take her measure freely.
Gloria wore a white blouse, a pair of simple black trousers underneath. Highlighting her tall waist and long legs, she looked both elegant and efficient. It was nothing like her old style.
"Sister, I just came from the company, didn't have time to change. You might find my dress unfamiliar." Gloria said with a smile.
"Company?"
Gloria replied, "Yes, didn't you know, sister? I came back to the country a month ago and have been working at Yan Group since. Didn't dad tell you?"
Harrison said, "Your sister just got back, I hadn't had the chance to tell her."
Gloria laughs, "No problem, it's not too late to know now."
Giselle didn't speak from the beginning to the end; she remained silent, assuming things might get a bit difficult.
Peipei Yan joined Yan Corp a month before her return to China, which no matter how you look at it, didn't seem like it was Zhengxiao Yan's intention to hand over the company to her.
Seeing the doubt in Liang Yan’s eyes, Zhengxiao Yan took the opportunity when Peipei left the sickroom to go to the bathroom to explain to Liang, "Peipei is also my child. Even though I favor you more, Yan Corp will eventually be handed over to someone who can truly manage it. Otherwise, the shareholders will not accept it. Peipei has previously gone abroad to focus on an MBA. She's done well in the company for the past month. I called you back early in hopes of giving you this opportunity. Liang, are you willing to work at Yan Corp?"
Could she refuse?
To decline meant to concede without a struggle.
Liang Yan agreed, but it was a real headache for her.
Being a powerful woman was not her life's goal. If she had a younger brother or someone else, she would have given up and live off her 20% of the company shares.
But to hand it over to Peipei Yan?
No way!
Even if it’s tough, she had to fight for it.
Besides, she never thought Peipei Yan was that clever. She did not believe that something Peipei Yan could do, she could not.
Liang Yan was standing in the ventilated corridor of the hospital, deep in thought, when Peipei Yan walked up to her.
"Sister."
Hearing the continuous 'sister' from Peipei Yan, Liang Yan felt point-blank annoyed.
"Peipei Yan, there's no need for you to pretend given our relationship."
Peipei Yan looked at her, "Why won't you believe that I can sincerely call you 'sister'?"
Giselle glanced at her, "Because I won't forget, you once almost took my life."
"You really know how to hold grudges." Gloria didn't bother acting anymore, saying, "Indeed, there's no need to pretend. I need to return to the company, I have a project to discuss tonight."
"I forgot to tell you." Pausing on her way out, she deliberately turned back to speak to Giselle, "It's a project in collaboration with the Hyland Group. I’ll probably meet your brother-in-law at the dinner tonight."
"No," she corrected herself with a playful smile, "Ex-brother-in-law."
Her words carried an unclear provocation.
Giselle curled her red lips, finding it somewhat amusing.
She really didn’t understand why Gloria hasn't changed at all.
After all this time, she still seemed to harbor feelings for Maverick.
Did she forget how ruthless Maverick had been to her in the past?
And—
How could she still think that she could provoke her with Maverick?
Competing for the same man, that’s a scenario Giselle will never take part in ever again.
—Boring.
Absolutely boring!
