Chapter 312
Gloria may or may not have seen Maverick, but Giselle has no idea.
And she doesn't really want to know.
On the third day, she started working at the Yan Corporation.
Of course, for someone like Giselle, who has never been in the workplace, just looking at the reports is overwhelming.
Harrison, however, has a fairly good measure of her abilities.
Giselle, ever since she was small, manages to do quite well whatever interests her or whatever she wants to learn.
But in areas she does not love, she's inherently carefree.
So, when Giselle arrived at the company, Harrison did not let her start working immediately. Instead, she started from the basics, learning.
For two consecutive days, Giselle reviewed reports, all from the past, old reports from Yan Corporation.
Harrison assigned his assistant to Giselle, to explain and study with her. After two days, Giselle had somewhat grasped the gist of it.
But, the more she understood, the drowsier she became. After all, looking at almost identical things over and over again can be quite dull.
After lunch, Giselle sat in a solo office, beginning to feel a bit sleepy. Just as she was about to doze off, there came a knock at the door.
She immediately woke up and sat up straight.
The one who entered was Yan Corporation's deputy director, Yu Hongsheng. In his mid-forties, but well-maintained, he looked more like a 'high-quality mature man.' He has worked at Yan Corporation for over 20 years, making him one of the veterans. He is also one of the shareholders of Yan Corporation.
"Tired from reading again?"
Yu Hongsheng entered, asking Giselle without a hint of blame.
Giselle said, "A little." Then she asked, "Uncle Yu, do you need something?"
Yu Hongsheng had a good relationship with Harrison, and when Giselle was young, she often saw this Uncle Yu. However, as she grew older, she hardly saw him anymore.
"In the company, remember to call me President Yu."
Giselle immediately corrected herself, "President Yu, may I ask if there is something you need?"
Yu Hongsheng didn't say a word, walked over, and flipped open the report, asking Giselle, "Do you understand what you see?"
The Yan's dealt with the building materials business, these reports contained a variety of material specifications, parameters, density, contrasts, precision down to the decimal point.
Giselle said, "After reviewing it for two days, I sort of understand it."
Yu Hongsheng closed the report and said, "Understanding a bit is enough, there's no need to waste your energy on these unimportant matters."
"..."
Giselle was at a loss for a moment, not knowing whether this was important or not.
Yu Hongsheng continued, "Do you know what your sister has been doing since she joined the company?"
Giselle asked, "What?"
Yu Hongsheng replied, "She has not wasted her precious time on this, these things, laying a good foundation can certainly be of great help to you, but these things, you have to work hard behind the scenes, what people should see on the surface is solid results."
"Discussing projects and partnerships, these are equivalent to sales, only when you help the company make money will you be recognized, and these experiences need to be accumulated in various social gatherings."
After speaking, Yu Hongsheng asked Giselle, "Can you drink alcohol?"
Giselle nodded her head, her alcohol tolerance wasn't bad at all.
"Tonight, I have a project on my side, if you're willing to learn, you can join me."
Giselle didn't hesitate. She agreed with Yu Hongsheng's words.
Doesn't it make sense?
When it comes to personal interests, shareholders don't care whether you work hard or not, they only look at you, to see how much profit you can bring to the company, and whether the money divided into their hands is much or little.
Moreover, most of the collaborations are finalized over drinks.
Giselle agreed. Yu Hongsheng seemed to sigh with a sympathetic heart, he said, "Actually, you don't have to endure these hardships. But if you lose to your sister, the shareholders of Yan's Company will not support you. So, you'll have to suffer a bit more in the future."
After saying all these, Yu Hongsheng left first.
When it was time to get off work, he came over and knocked on Giselle's office door.
Giselle had prepared in advance and took her bag to leave.
Her office was very close to Gloria's, they bumped into each other as she was leaving.
Gloria glanced at Giselle, then at Yu Hongsheng, "Where are you taking sister to, President Yu?"
Yu Hongsheng replied, "We're off to a project. Giselle is assisting me today."
Gloria's face changed slightly, "President Yu, you're really diligent."
With those words, her face embittered, she stepped forward with large strides and left.
As she passed Giselle, the look on her face was so grim that it couldn't be hidden.
Giselle clicked his tongue, Gloria is really concerned!
Of course Gloria was, with Yu Hongsheng mysteriously helping Giselle, she suspect it was because of Harrison's preference, he always stated they were his daughters and treated them equally.
Nonsense!
Gloria got into the car, feeling frustrated and anxious.
The collaboration with the Hyland family, stuck in the contract, they were unable to sign it.
She thought she could meet Maverick at the previous banquet, yet she didn't.
Now, she was worried that Giselle, coming from behind, would surpass her in business capabilities.
It seemed that she had to continue to meet with Maverick; if he could give a hint of interest, and move forward the project, Gloria's first major move in Hawk family would be considered done.
Gloria thought of Andrew.
If she couldn't arrange a meeting, Andrew could always do so.
...
On tonight's banquet, Giselle unexpectedly bumped into young master Pei.
One of Maverick's band of brothers.
Pei Shao was taken aback upon seeing Giselle. He stood up from his bench, staring at Giselle for quite a while, finally mustering, "When did you come back?"
Giselle gave a slight smile, displaying polite detachment, "A week ago."
"..."
Perhaps because Giselle's expression was too formulaic, Pei Shao felt a bit uncomfortable. Looking at Giselle's attire, utterly professional, he went silent, "Why have you started working?"
Probably in the eyes of their group, they unconsciously anticipated Giselle to thrive on his looks.
—of course.
That is how Giselle was in the past indeed.
Still smiling subtly, Giselle said, "Mr. Pei, I might need to rely a bit more on your support in the future."
"..."
Those words left Pei Shao unsure how to respond.
After everyone was seated, he looked across at Giselle, a view he found alien no matter how he looked. Eventually, he became so restless he found an excuse to exit the private room.
Stepping out, his first action was to call Steward, "Old Brownard Industry, I ran into Giselle."
Calling Steward was perhaps because Pei Shao didn't have the courage to reach out to Maverick.
Upon hearing this, Steward froze for a few seconds. Coincidentally, he was sitting in Maverick's office at the moment. He glanced at the working Maverick.
Holding his mobile phone, Steward stepped out of the office asking, "Where did you run into him?"
Pei Shao said, "Did you know, Giselle wore a suit just like a female office worker at the dinner meeting for the Yan cooperation, and asked for my help."
"Eh..."
Steward had a hard time picturing that scene.
It was difficult to associate Giselle with a female office worker.
"Do you think I should tell Maverick about his feelings towards Giselle? Does he hate her or does he have feelings for her?" Pei Shao asked.
Steward replied, "I have no idea."
What Maverick truly felt towards Giselle was also unclear to Steward. On one hand, Maverick divorced her and didn't need her. On the other hand, Maverick looked like he was barely surviving the past year without Giselle.
"So..." Pei Shao said, "Should I pretend I didn't meet her?"
Steward hesitated for a second, "Don't sign the contract yet. Bring Giselle to Night Color."
