Haley's POV:
We returned from dinner with Logan’s father a little past nine. Lily was already half-asleep in the car, her head resting against Logan’s shoulder as he carried her inside. My heart felt calmer than it had in days—his father’s words were still fresh in my mind. For once, the night had ended on peace.
By the time we drove home, the sky was dark, and Lily was asleep in the backseat, her tiny head resting against her car seat. Logan’s hand brushed mine as he drove, and he gave me one of those small, quiet smiles that always made my heart soften.
I thought the night would end peacefully.
But when we turned into our street, the porch light revealed a shadowy figure standing near the front steps.
I frowned, leaning forward. “Logan… someone’s at the house.”
He slowed the car, his body instantly tense. “Stay here.”
