Haley’s POV:
I was still standing in front of my closet—half-dressed, half-defeated—staring blankly at a row of dresses that all felt wrong. Nothing seemed to fit the occasion or my state of mind. My hair was a frizzy mess tied up in a hasty bun. My eyes were puffy from crying the night before, and I looked like a ghost of the woman I used to be. I wanted to look like someone Jordan wouldn’t be ashamed of. Someone Lily could be proud of. But all I could see in the mirror was a mother whose world had fallen apart.
That was when the familiar purr of an engine echoed in the street below. Logan. Of course, he was early.
I barely had time to grab my purse before he was buzzing at the door, and the next thing I knew, I was being ushered—gently but insistently—into his car.
"You're not wearing that to a child’s birthday party," Logan said, his voice calm but amused as he glanced over my hoodie and leggings. "Not when my daughter has declared you her ‘mommy guest of honor.’"
