DOMINIC’S POV
I stood near the entrance of their house, watching the road with my hands shoved deep into my pockets. I picked the twins because she didn’t want them even at the entrance of the pack house, and though I’d told myself I wouldn’t get my hopes up, I was lying—through my damn teeth.
I’d cleaned up, made sure my schedule was clear, even picked out a new shirt Aria had once said looked “like a marshmallow”—apparently that was a compliment. But when James finally came out with kids… Olivia wasn’t with them.
Disappointment hit harder than I expected. I tried not to let it show in front of the kids, but my wolf caught it immediately.
“Maybe she’s just busy,” he offered.
“Or maybe she didn’t want to see us,” I replied bitterly.
“Still hurts, huh? But I wonder who’s fault is that.”
“You don’t have to remind me every time.”
I pasted on a smile the second Noah and Aria hopped out of the car. They looked around hopefully, like they too had hoped their mother would come.
