When Caitlyn said my name, everything inside me stopped. I didn’t rush to her. I didn’t speak. I just stood there, watching her, unsure if I had heard it right. I had been waiting for this moment for so long, hoping that one day, the memory of me—of us—would return to her. But even when it finally came, I was afraid to move too quickly.
She stood there, looking at me with those soft eyes of hers, unsure of what she had just said. She lowered her gaze, almost as though she were afraid of the weight of the word she had spoken.
“I don’t know why I know it,” she said quietly, the words just above a whisper. “But it feels like the only word I trust.”
